Ha Cooke, I have just got back into archery after a big break (8 years) and have gone down the trad road this time. I have been shooting for about 2 months around 50 a night. Here is a group i just did with the wifes checkmate longhorn 41@28 first 4 shots for the day at 15m and is about my normal grouping at that distance. Waiting on some beman classic's to rock up for my bow as i think i might have tried to run before i could walk in regards to tuning trad bows with home made wood arrows.

Cheers

Hamish

Cooke the only arrow group I have ever worried about is the first arrow you shoot. But if you want to group arrows you must have correctly matched and spined arrows for the bow and a consistant draw length. You can stand there all day and group arrows one after the other until the cows come home but that will never be a guarantee that you will ever be able to take game consistently with trad gear, it does help but will give uncertain results. Howard Hill had the best practice for bowhunters to shoot consistent, he use to stand them up at the target butt at point blank range and he would make them shoot sometimes for 6 weeks straight or as long as needed until they had their draw anchor and release down to perfection, then and only then would he let them step back and shoot at the butt or hunt. Howard Hill use to do this himself and often would shoot 100 arrows just to make sure his form was spot on...Glenn...

Might have to give that a try Glenn. Practice does not make you perfect, Perfect practice makes you better. IMO.

Glenn totally agree.

There is a big difference between practice and training!

Cooke it has taken me about 6 months to constantly group a cd ring at 15-20 meters. Matched and weighted arrows is a must.

The best practice I can offer as Glenn said is walk strait out to the bunt and release one arrow only at the target, thats all you get when hunting, if your at 9 out of ten target zone hits you maybe ready for hunting. Just my opinion only though.

Another thought is make shore you can hit the zone with an broadhead on the end instead off a feild piont there is sometimes a big difference.

Cheers.

You're right Wayno, there is a big difference between the flights of a field point and a broadhead. Years ago we use to shoot at feild events at a National level with broadheads called the Bowhunter Round...Glenn...

some some hands on advice for col barret (micheal's dad) he is an old school traditional shooter. he helped heaps with my stance (he has me standing more front on with knees bent) it has helped make my draw more consistant. he also has me starting off with my arm stiff as i bring it up to draw. it was great to by shown and tought by a guy that knows his stuff. he wouldnt let me sit down with a beer either he made sure i had plenty of practice....
