i have had two d-loops wear through and snap on me now, i punched myself in the face 5 times yesterday and gave myself two good blood lips:P:(. i am thinking about getting a metal d-loop so i wont have this problem again but i thought a metal one might be alot louder?
im pretty sure the wearing is from the release aid but i have tried two or three different ones and they all chew through the loop.

any suggestions or any info at all would be appreciated

thank's dan.

Havent had one break yet(fingers crossed), hope youre alright.
Had one that came like a mini string that you looped through itself onto the string it was served but I cant recall the name, it was really goo. I went to them after going up in poundage as my release was eating into the string. When I had a new string made with more strands to help reduce bow noise that type wouldn't fit so my mate that does work on my bow made me one. Apparently it has some type of gel/nylon inside which helps resist wear or something, looks like venetian blind chord to me. Have been using it for the last 3/4months with no issues at around 75pound.
Can't comment on the metal loops as I haven't treid one. Though I have seen them and heard they only suit certain types of release aids?

ive got one of those titanium d loops on one of my bows and i find it alright, havent had any problems with it and i dont notice any difference in noise. I find it easier to put the calipers on but both are good. I would have thought that might come from a sharp edge or rough section in the jaws of your caliper maybe??

I dare say you might have a burr on your release and this is what is chewing out your d loop material. Has this happened for long whilst using the same release aid. Maybe it got bumped on a hunt or something. I use stock d loop material and have had it for a year and a half no with no probs.

dont go to a metal loop mate... chews the crap out of your centre serving and allow you to torque the string like crazy... ad its about 20grns of weight straight onto the centre of your string, so you can expect to lose a noticeable amount of speed... i'd stick to the material loop mate... im with ant on this one, i think u might have a bur on the inside of the caliper...

Dan

I had trouble with one of my releases like that with wear.

I started by holding it in a small vice and using a magnifing glass with a light on the side (like you use for models and fiddly stuff)

I then filed it with a needle file, polished it with wet and dry.( If you haven't got anything finer than 1200 rub 2 bits together. Start with around 240 and work to the finest in stages. Make sure you take out all the scratches from the previous paper before moving on to the next grade.)

I finished up using leather lace and metal polish to make it like a mirror where the loop contacts the release.

This cut the loop wear back to minimal.

Hope this helps

The loop was on the bow when it was traded Dan. I'll fire some of the stuff I use which is BCY and I haven't had a problem with that ever. If it is cutting through the loop then it sounds as if the release has a trouble spot.

Drop me your ph number Dan and I'll give you a call to step check it all for ya.

Dan, mate have you inspected your release aid for damage? You might have a small bur right on the front of the jaws. Check it then file it down (only a little or you will bugger your release aid).

i second about the relise shewing out the material, my carter 3D 2000 chews through one every 5-8 weeks due to the stupid design of the relise aid

If you go the metal d-loop, you can expect to chew up your release
