Well I'm back from my camping trip to Barmah state forest for new years. It was a scorcher at 41 degrees every day, but me and my mates were determined to go for a scout to see what we could find. We put in half a day before the heat got to us and although we saw alot of signs of pig activity we came back empty handed. But not before I had a great stalk on some brumby's, I got within about twenty meters of two adults and a smaller one. The largest of the 3 caught sight of me, spun round and started eyeballing me, I have to say I was feeling a bit uneasy and thought he was going to charge at me or something! I didn't take the shot because I wasn't sure if there are any laws regarding hunting these beautiful creatures and I'm glad I didn't take the shot because the general consensus around camp was they couldn't kill a horse, feral or not, and it made me wonder where everyone here stands on the subject. Does anyone here know if there are any legalities regarding hunting brumby's? Has anyone shot one before? Would anyone here not kill a feral horse?

Regards,
Lucas.

I find it no different to shooting a wild dog ,pig, cat deer or goat if they are feral i will take a crack. all of them are great pets i am sure but in the bush they are on my list. having said that i had never shot a brumby before my last trip to the cape and have to say i did not find it very rewarding although the carcas's did bring a lot of pigs out. i shot 3 in the first mornings walk and after that did not waste my time on them as they were in such thick numbers that i would have ran out of arrows in a couple days. they are great to stalk as they are very switched on..
