Gday all i have been doing a fair bit of hunting lately and have used a fair few differnt arrows first arrow up is the easton exel 340 (all arrows were shot out of 70# elite synergy with a 28 inch draw)all arrows hit granit boulders while hunting..this is what hapend.this arrow snaped of 3 inches of the front as well

Second arrow up is the ever tuff gold tip my normall hunting arrrow it is and expedition hunter 75/95 also struck a granite boulder...

Third arrow up is a beman black max mfx 340 i would not recomend these arrows as they are weak as a tooth pick.....

From now on there will be nothing but gold tips in my quiver as i think they are th tuffest arrow on the market and at a good price to!!!!!!!!!
.....cheers alex......

Interesting. It is simple posts like these that teach so much. I wish there was more like it.

why ya using field points for hunting granit boulders....lol
you do realize that the easton shaft is 0.6 grains per inch heavier than the goldtip shaft. ;)

yep i agree ive used gold tip terminators and havnt had one problem with them, and ive used beman ics hunters and like u said  tooth picks but i realy shouldnt be missing the game :D,
im now hoping i dont hit a rock seeing as my new arrows a fmj's custom crested but wen these are all gone im going to switch back to the terminators :),
good thread idea alex im sure people will find this really helpful

bloody priceless BH4E, that cracked me up...
as for me im using the gold tip exphedition havent tried the other two, but i think untill i get really full on into bowhunting (bigger game then rabbits) im going to downgrade my arows to redzone carbons (cheapo) as the way im shooting, which is crap, there flying generally the same and alot cheaper...
Have you thought about footing the end of your shafts with 1" of alloy shaft to stop them from mushrooming when they do hit something hard or is it not worth it?

Hmmm, Very interesting.
As someone with obvious experience, what technique do you prefer for getting in close enough to granite boulders for a shot? Do you stalk them or have you developed some form of boulder call and what is the best time to hunt boulders.
Also I note you are using field points to hunt your boulders, is this the preferred point or are there other options?
Last but not least can you post up some picks of trophy boulders you have taken? I love a good downed boulder photo.;)
