Congratulations Brian, top job that's what this site is about :D

This type of report gives people some insight into the differences they may encounter when trying to choose a bow and answer the questions that will help steer them in the right direction before purchasing :D :D

Brian

Thanks for the interesting comparison. I thought the Kodiak Magnum might stack a bit at 29 inches. It's pretty hard to make a short bow that doesn't stack. It would be interesting to see just how much variation there is in arrow speed between the two bows.

I've got to say, I much prefer the natural exotic hardwoods in a riser than actionwood. Actionwood has always struck me as being a bit bland, a bit artificial, if you know what I mean. It's not in the same league at striking natural wood grain, IMO.

G'day Brian , good report there mate, interesting to see the comparision between the two bows. Intresting point you made about the pointability of the two bows, that is always very important with a hunting bow for me and the main reason Ihave always steered away from three piece t.d. bow that have the limbs on the front of the riser, this makes that a backset handle bow and for me they just don't seem to point like a foward handle bow.
The mamba has very nice lines about it...Glenn...

interesting what you say about stack. The bear looked to have more vertical tips at your draw where the mamba seemed to be past vertical. From what I have read that would sugest the mamba should have been stacking worse than the bear.

Where in Japan are you Brian? I will be over there late in November - Kashiwa and Tokyo area.

Nice article Brian, well thought out and composed. :D I would also be interested in taking the Bear off your hands as I have a 28" draw on a curve..although I suspect I may have to get in line.. So when are you planning on coming back to Oz..this year :?:

Thanks for the article Brian, I was so impressed with the Mamba that I have ordered one for myself. Unfortunately I have to wait for Santa to deliver it. I went for 50# as I made the mistake of getting a compound that is 60 to 70#and I feel that these days we don't need the big poundages to get big performance.
I have dipped my toe in the traditional pond by shooting a wooden self bow that is flat in section about 60" long,60# and stacks horribly in the last few inches of my 28" draw.
When I try other peoples recurves and laminated longbows of good design I find they just feel lighter to draw and more 'alive' in the hand.
Incidentaly can someone tell me how the length of recurves is measured?
I have an old 'Short Bee' by Blackhawk which has 62'' written on it but measures 58" in a straight line unstrung or 62" tip to tip if measured around the curves on the back of the bow,is this the way to measure them?
