G'day fella's,

I'm after some tips to better my accuracy.

First up though, a description of how I am shooting. I am anchoring at the same place each time. Cusping my jaw bone at the back in the thumb/first finger groove. With first finger tip in the corner of my mouth basically. This ensures I am constantly at the same point. I am a little shaky of course. When I shoot with plain fingers, I could group them pretty well. Within 12" of each other 75% of the time. (a few stray's) lol

But when I try to use the finger tab, its way off. Over 7-10 meters I am missing by up to 1 to 2 feet. It's pulling left, off the target completely. I have switched back to plain fingers, and shoot straight again.

As the bow is camo, I am using markings on the bow for distance, so generally the height is ok most of the time. The finger tab does seem to make me shoot high though. I think this is because of the 1 finger over.

With plain fingers, I have 3 below the nock. With tab, 2 under 1 over.

I am not sure exactly what I could be doing to cause such a change, but I'm doing something with the finger tab.

Got any idea's or tips ?

Cheers
:)

When I used to shoot with my fingers I bought a 3 fingered glove. It is exactly what it sounds like, a glove that cover the tips of your 3 middle fingers. When i was using that I had no problems shooting. It will also allow you to go back to placing 3 fingers under, which may fix your problem. They are readily available at archery stores and from memory were only about $15. Hopes this helps, cheers Chris

Hey Chris,

The tab I have is pictured: http://img242.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00026wf2.jpg On the back is hard plastic where the 6 bolts are.(you'll see in the pic)

Since the finger tab is designed to be used 2under 1over, I have been doing that. I might try it with all 3 under still using the tab. Are there any reasons why this wouldn't be done ? safety/3daaa rules or something.

Cheers

I know a fair few guys favour the glove because when that big shot presents itself there is no stuffing around getting the tab in place (but it's a personal thing). I shoot three under on my recurve, and have 2 different gloves i use. I love 'em.

I was told not to shoot for very long with your bare fingers, or you will eventually kill all the nerve endings in the ends of your fingers and lose feeling in them. (I haven't tried it to see if it's true, it's not really something i want to mess with.)

Kill nerve endings eh.. Yeah, no thanks. lol

I've just been shooting with the tab, 3 under and it seems better. I took my camcorder out as well to see how my style is.

My draw elbow is a little high, so it seems. However, I am shooting downhill. It's pretty much in line with the arrow, which I think is perfect.

Will just need more practice and a steady arm.

This is with shooting 3 under using the tab. Seems to be getting better... Obviously my aim is at the circle in the middle. At 10 meters.. 6.5 inch spread.. left/right

:D

So you're shooting bare bow (no sights)? Do yourself a favour get a release aid, sights and rest to suit. you will shoot better and enjoy it more.

I was going to get all that to start off with. But the guys at Darryl Reeks reccomended I start bare. Giving a few reasons as to why etc, and I agreed with them.

I'm happy to start this way. Learning from the beginning (i feel) would benifet me more than starting with a "limo" setup.

I just split one of my arrows down the middle which is a shame. But alas, that shoot was all at the same height, within 2 inches, but just a bit accross the target.

Getting better fast, and loving it.

I think starting out bare bow is the best way. Worry about the other stuff later

I shot bare bow with fingers on a compound for around 15 years (sheet i'm nearly 30) and i had a similar problem with the second finger tab i used, they went way too low and over to the left and didn't group well either.I was horrified. After a while i concluded that the leather was way too stiff, partially because it was new and partially because it was made of a much thicker leather than my previous one. I found a piece of really thin leather, cut my own and everything came back to where it was.
I hesitated for a long time before switching (last march) to sights and release and i was REALLY disappointed, couldn't hit a thing, but now i wouldn't go back.
Try a thinner tab, stick with bare bow until you're comfortable and then if you seek tighter groups or a new challenge put on a sight and buy a release aid.
By the way i always found it more comfortable (and accurate) with 1 finger above and 2 beneath-each to their own.

Thanks...

I'm constantly on ebay lookin for extra's at a nice price. At the moment there's a trophy ridge flatliner 5 pin sight.

$75 + P&H.

Unsure if its a good sight though. Hesitant to bid. The pins are vertical, unsure if there's much difference between horizontal and vertical when shooting. Other than the orientation. I guess ya just sample stuff and see what you like eh.

Meh, $75.. What else do we work for ?

And as for nearly 30, stop ya *****ing. I wish I could go back to sub 30. lol

I put on a ****ty sight (allen US$20 on Ebay) on my martin lynx magnum to see if i wanted to go down that path. I now have a 5 pin trophy ridge matrix (vertical) on a pse x force, so needless to say, i went down that path (as did a lot of money).

I prefer vertical, but each to their own.

I wouldn't know if that is a good price or not for the flatliner but by the look of it you better act fast!
